TEERE CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
Women's economic empowerment ensures that women enjoy their rights to control and benefit from resources, assets, income and their own time, as well as the ability to manage risk and improve their economic status and wellbeing. Empowering women to participate fully in economic life across all sectors is essential to build stronger economies, achieve internationally agreed goals for development and sustainability, and improve the quality of life for women, men, families and communities.

On this important day, people tend to look at big names that are in higher positions and forget of the woman at the community level trying to bring education, food, health, peace and unity to the family. As we all know, women are the mainstay and backbone of rural economies across the developing world. They face handicaps in accessing credit, finding collateral, have poor and limited education, poor access to markets and lack opportunities and technologies and so on.

TEERE has empowered rural women, their children and families in the Upper East region of Ghana through the Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA) programme. However, there is more to be done and TEERE is committed to improving lives of these women.
On this occasion of the International Women’s Day, TEERE wishes to salute all women across the globe. We acknowledge their enormous contribution to world peace, understanding and development. We urge all government institutions, civil society organisations and the private sector in Ghana and elsewhere on the globe to commit more resources to the agenda of women.
